Beta PhD Award

Until 2009 Beta granted the Beta PhD Award during the biennial Beta Conference to the young researcher who wrote the best Beta PhD thesis in the field of Operations Management over the preceding two years. As from 2009 the Beta Conference is organized yearly and the Beta Executive Board has decided to grant the Beta PhD Award yearly also.

The Beta PhD Award is granted to the PhD who defended the best Beta PhD thesis during the previous calendar year.

Selection criteria for the best Beta PhD thesis are:

  • Scientific quality
  • (Scientific) originality
  • Quality of presentation
  • Scientific relevance
  • Potential for utilization and societal relevance
  • Multidisciplinarity

Procedure: The Beta Board invites all first supervisors to nominate at most 1 PhD who defended his/her Beta thesis in the previous year under his/her supervision. Nominations accompanied by a letter of recommendation are assessed by the Beta Board.
